Q: What is an EMF meter and how is it used in paranormal investigations?

A: It’s generally believed that in order to communicate or manifest, spirits must gather energy from their surroundings. Energy waves that are altered (increase) when this happens can be measured with EMF meters, A paranormal investigator uses an EMF meter to locate paranormal activity but can also detect sources of electrical leakage.

To detect changes in the electromagnetic field, the investigator will first take a general reading of a given area to find a base reading for that area (In other words, the normal reading). A typical base reading is usually 1 to 3 milligaus. A needle on the EMF meter will increase or decrease to indicate changes in electromagnetic energy. The higher the reading the higher the level of electromagnetic energy. After that...any spike on the EMF meter that occurs in combination with a sound, visual evidence, a cold spot, or disembodied voice caught on tape in that area is believed to mean that a spirit is trying to manifest itself.
But since EMF meters measure the strength of electromagnetic fields,
Electrical leakage is often another possible source, instead of paranormal activity.
Electrical leakage can result in the following symptoms: headaches, nausea, paranoia, fear, anxiety and if the leakage is severe enough hallucinations for people that are hyper sensitive to these types of fields.
This leakage can be dangerous and most home owners are relieved to discover that a solution other than a paranormal one exists, And when the electrical issue is repaired, the symptoms will usually disappear.

Q: What is a K-2 Meter and how does it work?

A: An EMF meter shows readings based on a a needle that moves back and forth to indicate the strength of the electromagnetic field. But the K-2 Meter shows these fluctuations with lights, With the K-2 Meter the investigator will set the device on a flat surface and begin asking questions aloud.
They will normally ask questions that can be answered in yes or no fashion and wait for the lights to flash. IE: (Flash twice for Yes, once for No)

Q: What is EVP/Electronic voice phenomena ?

A: "EVP" are human voices caught on audio that were not present at time of recording, provides compelling evidence for the existence of ghosts.
In the 1920s, Thomas Edison attempted to create a machine that would allow him to contact the dead. Although he was never able to succeed in building this machine,  he remained a believer in the existence of ghosts and the supernatural. Edison's attempts were the first of many throughout the twentieth century to make contact with the other side.

Another person connected with early EVP is Friedrich Juergenson, While recording bird songs Juergenson inadvertently captured a disembodied voice on audio. While playing the tapes back, he could hear a female voice saying, " Friedel, my little Friedel, can you hear me?  Friedrich, you are being watched."  He recognized this voice as that of his deceased mother.

How to get EVP

While there is no guarantee, the  process of getting EVP is really quite easy. All you need is a simple voice recorder. In fact, most paranormal investigators prefer the simpler recorders over the more elaborate. The more elaborate recorders tend to have features that will automatically filter out static and background noise and that allows the recorder to possibly filter out the disembodied voices.
It is best to use a simple recording device that has a microphone that is external (plugs in) since microphones that are built-in are more likely to pick up the motor noises of the device and that will contaminate the recording and could cause a "false positive".

When playing back your audio recording,
if you think you hear something you should take note of the counter number, This way you will be able to refer to that spot on the tape when you go back to listen again. If you do hear something, you need to rule out radio transmissions or anyone that was with you at the time of the recording. This will  help you in deciding whether or not the recording is a true EVP.
At times investigators will not know what words are being spoken, while others times the words are perfectly clear so there is no doubt as to what is being said.So it is best to use headphones when listening to EVP's

Q: What about Orbs, are they really paranormal?

A:  Some of the early, low-end (low priced) digital cameras were made using CMOS chips which caused irregularities in poorly lit photographs and these would be mistaken for orbs, so in effect these cameras were creating orbs when there was nothing paranormal to photograph.
It is generally believed that the higher the mega-pixel the better the camera for "ghost hunting" so try to stay in the 5 to7 mp range,  anything higher will more than likely read any anomaly  improperly and try to delete it.
There is no evidence to suggest that orbs are related to ghosts, while they have often been seen in photos taken at "haunted" locations, they have been photographed in many other places as well, generally 99.9% of all "Orb" activity in photographs can be explained as dust, moisture, a dirty lens, flying insects, or light refraction....but there is still that .1%
that can't be explained.
